The dairy industry’s long term success depends on a skilled, knowledgeable and capable workforce. Through the Primary Industry Skills and Knowledge Development programme, the MPO works with key stakeholders to ensure that skills development remains relevant, current and aligned with industry needs, regulations and future opportunities.

Engagement with Relevant Authorities
and Industry Representatives

Engagement and interaction with relevant public-sector authorities, regulatory bodies and representatives of other industries regarding acts, regulations, policies, procedures, and skills and knowledge development needs within the dairy industry.

  • The structure, regulatory framework and requirements of AgriSETA provide the context for this element.

  • Engagement should ensure that dairy industry skills development requirements remain aligned with applicable legislation, regulations, policies and industry needs.

Evaluation and Review of the
Dairy Occupational Curriculum

Continued evaluation of the current dairy occupational curriculum to determine whether amendments are required to the curriculum design, learning materials, assessment tools or quality management system.

  • Curriculum reviews should take account of technological developments, changes in production procedures and evolving requirements established by relevant public- and private-sector bodies.

  • These activities include participation in and alignment with the work of the relevant Milk SA committees and AgriSETA structures.

  • Where necessary, recommendations should be developed and implemented to ensure that the curriculum remains relevant, current and responsive to industry requirements.

Promotion and Guidance on
Skills and Knowledge Development

Promotion of skills and knowledge development within the dairy industry, together with guidance to dairy industry members on appropriate skills development interventions.

  • Provide guidance to members regarding suitable training interventions based on identified industry skills and knowledge needs.

  • Provide guidance on accessing and utilising mandatory and discretionary grants available through the relevant skills development structures.

  • Support members in identifying appropriate training opportunities that contribute to the development and sustainability of the dairy industry.
