The Milk Producers’ Organisation encourages coordination between research institutions and promotes research that supports the strategic direction of the South African dairy industry.

Working in consultation with public and private research institutions, universities and provincial departments, the programme focuses on the practical application of both local and international research and development.

The MPO’s sustainability work brings together the latest principles and practices supporting a viable, competitive and ethically sound South African dairy industry.

This includes ongoing work addressing the factors that are important to long-term dairy sustainability and providing the industry with factual information to respond to anti-cattle campaigns and related claims.

SHARING RESEARCH KNOWLEDGE

Existing research knowledge is conveyed to to industry participants through scientific articles sourced from international literature. These are shared through The Research Column on the MPO’s website and published in relevant industry publications.

An inventory of ongoing and finalised research projects is updated every two years and circulated among researchers and other industry participants.

This helps harmonise research activities, encourages collaboration and supports a coordinated approach to dairy research in South Africa.
