Requirements for external milk silos

Dairy Standard Agency has compiled a useful guideline about the requirements for external milk silos in terms of the Milk Shed Regulations. The use of external milk silos at milk production level instead of the conventional farm bulk milk tank in the milk room is a fairly new concept  in South Africa, however widely used around the word. Generally speaking in South Africa conventional practice by means of horisontal milk tanks in milk rooms is mainly due to existing technology, herd size, average milk production volumes per unit as well as general less intensive farming practices in comparison to major milk production countries.
