Milk production in July 2016 was 3,2% lower than in July 2015, continuing the negative growth trend that started at the end of 2015. The January to July 2016 production was 4,2% lower than the corresponding period in 2015. The decreasing trend was caused by the sharp increase in input prices, the decrease in producer prices and the scarcity of roughage. Producer price increases since the beginning of 2016 are not at a level to encourage higher production. The decreasing trend will continue unless producer prices are increased substantially. Normal spring rain may alleviate the coming crisis slightly
