During the first ten months of 2014, South African dairy farmers have 2 330 million litres of milk, 1,7% more than during the same period last year. Milk production growth accelerated in September and October following slow growth in the first eight months of the year. Lower grain prices and stable producer prices were the main drivers of increased production. Favourable production conditions in many areas contributed to higher production growth. Information from milk producers in the different regions shows that milk supply balance is marginal with several milk processors still requiring additional milk. This may affect producer prices in 2015.
