Milk = a healthy, smart and active kid

“A glass of fresh milk daily makes a healthy, active and smart kid” is the theme of the Department of Basic Education’s first-ever School Milk Day celebrations. The MPO has partnered with the DBE and is participating in some of the events held at schools in North West. The first celebration of milk through song, dance and poetry was held at Thuto Mmelegi Primary School in Lichtenburg on Tuesday, 20 September 2016. The event was attended by officials from the DBE, Department of Health (DoH) and the National School Nutrition Programme. Pupils were not only entertained but also informed by the MPO about the process milk goes through from the cow to the consumer, the nutritional value of dairy and the importance of including milk and milk products in a balanced, healthy diet. Educational material supplied by Milk SA’s Consumer Education Project was handed to teachers to use in their classes. Every pupil – 1 300 in total − received a 250 ml portion of milk sponsored by Clover.
