Memorable 48th SASDT symposium

The South African Society for Dairy Technology’s 48th annual symposium took place in Cape St Francis, Eastern Cape from 14 to 16 April. The theme of the symposium was Innovation and cost optimisation. Keynote speakers gave an overview of innovation from within the corporate environment to a global as well as a consumer view. High-profile speakers followed with talks on new technologies, regulations and guidelines relating to the revised regulations relating to dairy composition standards. The guidelines were published in the Government Gazette on 27 March 2015 and will be implemented on 28 March 2016. MPO vice-chairman Nigel Lok provided new insights on redefining dairy farm management. The much-anticipated Code of Practice published by Agri Connect was launched by the Dairy Standard Agency (DSA). Jompie Burger, managing director of the DSA received a merit award from the SASDT. The talks were well attended and delegates enjoyed a variety of social events with a great deal of networking taking place.
