International prices

International dairy product prices recovered from the decreasing trend in 2014. Prices on the Fonterra Global dairy trade internet sales showed an increasing trend from the second December sale. This continued to the beginning of March 2015. Prices again decreased at the latest sale held on 17 March 2015. The global dairy trade index increased by 26% from its lowest level in October 2014 to a new peak at the sale on 7 March. In spite of the decrease at the 17 March sale, prices are still 20% above the October level. The decrease in the value of the rand resulted in a further increase in international product prices in rand terms. Import parity is currently again higher than South African producer prices.
