Growth in milk production continues

Figures recently supplied by Milk SA indicate continued growth in production. Total milk production during the first five months of 2015 was 10% higher than during the same period last year. Production growth has accelerated since spring 2014. The main reasons for this are an improved milk:feed price ratio, favourable production conditions and the intensification of production where herds are growing bigger. Various factors will affect production in the coming months. The lower producer prices, higher energy cost and possible higher feed prices may affect production growth. Production growth will probably continue at high levels.
