For years, the dairy industry was listed among the culprits emitting high amounts of greenhouse gas emissions and therefore contributing to global warming. When it comes to dairy, consumers have two major misperceptions: that dairy cattle have a major effect on global warming and that cattle compete with humans for food,” noted Joanne Knapp from Fox Hollow Consulting, at the Tri-State Dairy Nutrition Conference.
The goal of her presentation was to set the record straight and dispel the myths consumers have about dairy in this regard. “Globally, dairy animals contribute only 4% to manmade GHG emissions. In developed countries, this contribution is even lower owing to improved productivity and dilution by emissions from other sectors.” To read more, click HERE.
