MPO launches Guidelines to water use authorisation and registration for dairy farmers
Do you need help with the authorisation and registration of water use on your dairy farm? The MPO launched its newly published user-friendly Guidelines explaining the requirements of the National Water Act (36 of 1998) regarding the authorisation and registration of water use at its Annual General Meeting held in George on 20 September 2017.
The Guidelines were compiled with input from the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), dairy industry role players and the WWF. The document was printed in a handy pocket-sized booklet, back to back in English and Afrikaans. The WWF/Woolworths Fresh Water Stewardship partnership sponsored the printing cost of the Guidelines.
The Guidelines include an overview of the legal framework for the effective and sustainable management of our water resources, the categories of water use and the different types of water uses applicable to dairy farmers. Water use activities that are subject to limits and conditions for which a water use is permissible under General Authorisation (GA) and water uses that may require a licence are listed with reference to the relevant Government Notices and the website links.
