Significant growth predicted for agribusiness in Africa

In a recent report, the World Bank has stated that Africa’s agribusiness sector could triple over the next 15 years to become a trillion-dollar food market. According to the report, Unlocking the Potential of Agribusiness, the prediction is based on the current size of Africa’s agribusiness sector, which is approximately $313 billion. South Africa is positioned to play a vital role in this potential revolution. Former UN secretary general Kofi Annan recently said, “The world’s burgeoning population needs to be fed and Africa, our continent, is well positioned to do so.” We have enough resources to feed not just ourselves but other regions too. We must seize this opportunity now. Money is continually flowing into Africa’s agribusiness, a major portion of which is invested in South Africa.
