Let’s talk about silage

The 2015 silage season did not go as smoothly as anticipated owing to the drought, which affected maize production. Farmers were forced to use young maize for silage production. Vitam International decided to arrange an informal silage discussion session with international silage expert Mr John Bax.

The session was held on the farm of MPO Northwest branch chairman Mr Johan van Niekerk’s outside Delareyville. The 15 farmers who attended the session had the opportunity to benefit from Mr Bax’s advice regarding the technical aspects of silage production and how to manage the production process to minimise losses. The farmers appreciated the one-on-one interaction with Mr Bax and agreed that the session equipped them with valuable tips and information to improve silage production on their farms. Vitam expressed its appreciation to the MPO and Mr Van Niekerk for their contribution to the session’s success
