Higher retail prices

The retail prices of dairy products have increased markedly since the beginning of 2014. The average price of pasteurised milk increased from R20,00 per litre in January to R24,00 in September 2014, an increase of 20%. Price increases are also evident for most dairy product categories. The price of long-life milk increased by 6,7% in the 12 months to June 2014, cream prices increased by 7,5%, cream cheese by 9,1% and pasteurised milk by 7,7%. With the exception of pasteurised milk, in all cases total demand has also increased.
