At the Fonterra Global dairy trade (GDT) auction on 20 January, prices were on average 1% up on the previous sale. This followed on a 2,4% and 3,6% increase at the two previous sales. The GDT index has increased by 6% since the 18 November sale.
It is expected that lower international producer prices will in time result in lower production. This has not yet realized. However, the increase in global dairy product prices at the last three sales may be an indication that the expected recovery is on its way.
