It is important to make well-informed decisions when selecting semen. Choosing bulls at random or even just the bulls that fit your pocket will not benefit you in the long run. According to Les Hansen, University of Minnesota dairy genetics specialist, dairy producers in the US typically breed Holstein heifers and cows with semen from Holstein AI bulls at random without any regard to pedigrees and the potential for inbreeding.
