Food for thought at MPO congress

The MPO hosted its annual conference at the Saint George Hotel outside Pretoria on 10 September. The theme of this year’s congress was Optimise your business. The programme was designed to empower farmers with information and practical tips to manage their businesses in a sustainable and profitable way.

The CEO of Clover, Johann Vorster, discussed opportunities to optimise dairy businesses by sustainable exports to Africa. In turn, Werner Buchner of Nanaga Farming Trust, informed delegates during his talk about the benefits of cooperation among farmers. Newton Cockroft from Deloitte cast light on the state’s support measures to grow businesses through investment and exports. In turn, Pieter Esterhuizen gave an interesting talk on opportunities and challenges for the dairy industry in southern Africa in practice. Mike Mouton from DeLaval gave appropriate tips in his talk on the seven habits of highly effective dairy farmers. Andries Wiese from Mutual & Federal’s gave advice in his presentation You are your best partner, while Werner Douglas’s advice on the use of solar power as an alternative energy source gave food for thought.

MPO North hosted the conference and chairman Johan Strydom thanked all dairy farmers, sponsors and all other stakeholders who contributed to the success of the proceedings.
