International dairy market remains depressed

The international market for dairy products remains depressed. This is illustrated by the latest Fonterra global dairy-trade internet sale where prices decreased by an average 5,9%. The GDT market-weighted index decreased to 634, down 40% from July 2014 and 53% from July 2013. This sale took place under very uncertain global financial conditions with uncertainty in Greece causing hiccups on international financial markets. Current international dairy and producer prices derived from these prices are not sustainable and conditions will have to change to encourage milk producers to produce more.
