California became the state with the strictest government standards in the US for the use of antibiotics in livestock production when Governor Jerry Brown promulgated the bill recently. The bill follows growing concern that the overuse of antibiotics in meat production is contributing to the rapidly increasing number of human infections by antibiotic-resistant bacteria or superbugs. According to a public health expert, about 70% of antibiotics important for human medicine are sold in the US for use in meat and dairy production. To read more, click HERE.
