Will higher cobalt levels in the rumen improve fibre digestion in late-lactating dairy cows? The SDSU Dairy Science Department conducted a study to find out just that. Cobalt-lactate is a highly soluble source of cobalt (Co) in the rumen. Prior research evaluating higher Co feeding rates has been shown to increase ruminal fibre digestion. Feeding high forage rations to late-lactation dairy cows may improve income over feed cost. In addition, cows could benefit from higher ruminal soluble Co rates to enhance ruminal fibre and nutrient digestibility. To read more, click HERE.
