DTI launches export strategy

The Department of Trade and Industry launched its Integrated National Export Strategy (Export 2030) with the theme Export Promoting Industrialisation to spur growth amid economic crisis and beyond at a workshop held on 23 March 2016 in Pretoria. Deputy Director: General Trade and Investment, South Africa, Pumla Ncapayi, said in her keynote address that the strategy aims to increase South Africa’s capacity for exporting diversified and value-added products to various global markets. It also aims to strengthen the country’s export performance by improving the trade and business environment as well as the competitiveness of companies and sectors. The national targets of the INES aim to  ̶

 grow total South African exports by 6% a year in volume, as determined in the National Development Plan;

 grow exports of manufactured products to 7% a year (double in 10 years) in value;

 grow exports of manufactured products to constitute 40% of total manufacturing output by 2030 in value;

 grow exports of services to constitute 40% of total services supplied by 2030 in value; and

 grow South African exports to capture 1% of total world exports by 2030 in value.

The agricultural processing sector (including food and beverages) is one of the sectors targeted for export growth. Existing and potential exporters will be assisted through the National Exporter Development Programme (NEDP), which includes export awareness seminars, as well as the provision of information and financial assistance.
