How to manage wastewater

Milk producers in the Eastern Cape have the opportunity to find out how to manage wastewater in terms of the requirements of the National Water Act, Act 36 of 1998. Following a meeting of representatives from the Department of Water Affairs and Sanitation (DWS) with MPO Eastern Cape chairman Lourens Gildenhuys, vice-chairman Zola Gebeda, management member Bradley Schwarz and Philip Swart, manager member services at the MPO, workshops were arranged from 16 to 26 November at various venues in the province. The interactive workshops will focus on the registration and authorisation of effluent dams for the storage and discharge of waste. The department is eager to explain the requirements of the act to dairy farmers to help them comply. The MPO supports the department’s efforts and urges farmers to attend the workshops. All the meetings are scheduled for 10:00 at the following venues:

16 Nov 2015 – Queenstown, Golf Club

17 Nov 2015 – Cradock, Tuishuise

18 Nov 2015 – Alexandria, Overberg Agri

19 Nov 2015 – Humansdorp, Nico Malan Club House

26 Nov 2015 – East London, Python Park

For more information, contact either Zandile Maqwazima from DWS at 082 908 2992 or e-mail maqwazimaz@dws.gov.za, or phone Zola Gebeda at 079 277 2599 or e-mail zolagebeda@gmail.com.
