Downturn in imports

During September 2015, 3 894 tonnes of dairy products were imported into South Africa. This is 50% down on August 2015. UHT milk imports decreased from 3 000 tonnes in August to 390 tonnes in September. Imports during the first nine months are still 83% more than the same period last year. Exports are marginally lower than in the first nine months of 2014. Higher world prices and a weaker rand contributed to the decrease in imports.
