Milk production growth slows down

Figures recently supplied by Milk SA show that the fast monthly growth in total milk supplies experienced since mid-2014 is slowing down. In October 2015, 302 million litres of milk were delivered to dairies, 2,8% more than in October 2014. Total milk delivery for the 10 month period to end October is estimated at 2 509 million litres, 7,7% more than during the same period last year. Roughage availability is a serious problem in many areas. This will limit milk production growth in coming months. Higher grain prices have already resulted in lower margins for milk producers and further grain price increases may result in a further slowdown in milk production growth.
