Fonterra is helping Sri Lanka to modernise its growing dairy industry. The company, through its Biyagama Powder Plant, recently launched ultra-high temperature fluid milk under its Anchor brand. The UHT milk will be sold in one litre packs in stores and supermarkets across that country. “The introduction of Anchor Liquid Milk means we will need to collect more high quality milk from more farmers, and to do this we need a stronger Sri Lankan dairy industry,” Leon Clement, managing director of Fonterra Brands: Sri Lanka said.
The Biyagama Powder Plant employs more than 250 local Sri Lankan staff and packs about 475 000 packs of milk powder every day. The company has been active in building relationships with Sri Lanka for over 35 years and is active in growing fodder gardens, increasing daily feed intake and constructing better dairy facilities.
Sri Lanka is a country with 20 million people and nearly 300 000 milking cows, in addition to 90 000 milking water buffalo. To read more about this, click HERE.
