Dairy cows need energy, minerals and vitamins to support their milk performance after calving and in early lactation, which when they lose nutrients via their milk. In the absence of such support, they are prone to six metabolic disorders that can have disastrous consequences. These diseases are hypocalcemia or milk fever; hypophosphatemia, which is the urinary and saliva loss of phosphorus; hypomagnesemia, also known as grass tetany; hypokalemia demonstrating low blood potassium levels; elevated concentration of blood ketones or ketosis; and displaced abomasum.
